The Emergence of Philanthropreneurship

Earlier this month our Strategy & Operations Manager, Brett Austin Cooper was selected to attend the 2015 Philanthropreneurship Forum in Versailles, France. The theme for the Forum was ‘New Frontiers of Philanthropy,’ focusing on entrepreneurial approaches to philanthropy and how they play an increasingly instrumental role in addressing both social and environmental issues. These innovative dynamics of giving have been reshaping global philanthropy and social investment in the past decade. Delegates explored the opportunities, challenges and prospects of new approaches of philanthropy that place innovation, creativity and impact at the heart of social progress. Below is a small snippet from Brett on his experiences for this year’s event.

I had the honor and privilege of being invited to the 2015 Philanthropreneurship Forum. Among the guests invited by His Excellency Amr Al-Dabbagh were leaders in the areas of philanthropy, academia, and social entrepreneurship. Some key takeaways were:

– Many of the panelists noted the need for greater speed in social enterprises – the ability to recognize market shifts and react to them accordingly;

-Tracking, assessing, and reporting social impact by a reliable and standardized method is of great need; and

-Donors are increasingly not only looking for new ways to donate and support burgeoning social enterprises and NGO efforts, but they are also looking to deploy their funds into the most novel and innovative efforts and organizations.
