The Client

Praxis Institute for Participatory Practices is a 25-year-old development support organization headquartered in New Delhi, India, committed to mainstreaming the voices of the poor and marginalized sections of society in the quest for equity and governance. Praxis engages in participatory research, capacity-building and advocacy to ensure that the most excluded and vulnerable communities have a say in development. As part of one of its engagements, Praxis has been supporting frontline organizations in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, that work with community initiatives and women groups in communities vulnerable to child trafficking and forced labour.

The Challenge

As a service provider of case management to different NGO partners in India, Praxis faced the problem of offering a streamlined service to these partners to monitor their operations, gather end-to-end information on their projects, and offer case management through technology. Centralizing this information and sharing reports with stakeholders also proved to be a challenge without the use of digital tools.

The Solution

Praxis saw the need to have one centralized digital case management system and an offline mobile application for the NGOs to use in their field operations. The mobile users in these areas also needed to see the information passed to them on mobile in their native Hindi, Bengali and Tamil languages. Their partners also needed to have reports in these languages and they were able to do that using TaroWorks and Salesforce. It is on Salesforce that they are able to monitor, track progress and share reports by aggregating data collected using the TaroWorks application on mobile.

With operations now digitized, they are thinking of targeting more NGOs in other districts that are working with communities vulnerable to sex trafficking and those involved in rural community work. Praxis would also like to have the communities run their events, and offer community and group management through TaroWorks and Salesforce.
