SOCAP 2015 Recap & Highlights

The Social Capital Markets Conference or better known as SOCAP is always an important event for us at TaroWorks. The networking opportunities SOCAP provides are unparalleled. But this year was a bit extra special as our CEO, Emily Tucker presented during the Vodafone Americas Mobile Fast Pitch.

The aim for the Pitch is to bring innovation in mobile technology to SOCAP, fueling a movement to create social change at scale through mobile technology solutions. Emily alongside two other cutting-edge social entrepreneurs showed how leveraging mobile technology can offer innovative solutions (such as TaroWorks) to some of the world’s most pressing problems. The Pitch consisted of one minute to showcase TaroWorks and 2 mins for Q&A. A challenge with such a short time period but definitely a rewarding experience for Emily and TaroWorks.

SOCAP itself was big, 2,600 people from 60 countries (to be exact) converged at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, CA. During the conference, we met with our supporters at Cisco, Vodafone and eBay and caught up with a few of our clients as Waste Ventures and IluMexico. Not to mention we learned more about how social enterprises and social impact investors were blending money and social good together. Whether seeing familiar faces, making new connections or learning something new, SOCAP really offered it all.

The focus for SOCAP this year was boiled down to one major question: What does it mean to build a marketplace at the intersection of money and meaning in a world facing growing economic inequality, racial injustice, ongoing humanitarian crises, and climate change? This is a question we work with our clients every day to answer to help drive impact.
