Helen Jones from Yamba Malawi has been in the field this week, training their “super user” program staff to get started using TaroWorks, and we’re sharing some of her photos from the field.
Yamba Malawi is a nonprofit whose mission is to transform children’s lives by empowering communities to break the cycle of poverty in Malawi. Their programs combine social services, one-on-one coaching, and business development to ensure every child has food, education, and care. As such, they want to monitor how households working in various value chains (i.e. honey, poultry) are better providing for children, which includes tracking things like business financials (i.e. income), lifestyle surveys about the parents, and interviews with the children.
They previously tracked all data using pen and paper, but needed to move to a digital system that would provide faster and more comprehensive reporting. Prolocity Consulting had previously implemented Salesforce.com for Yamba Malawi’s fundraising management, and has built upon that same system to now incorporate program management and M&E.
In the past few weeks, Helen has been in Malawi field-testing TaroWorks and Salesforce.com with Yamba Malawi “super user” program staff. Program staff started with training in the office, and this week ventured out for field testing:

Specifically, the Yamba Malawi program staff are collecting financial data on the most recent poultry cycle as well as logging household information for staff members of the Mchenga Poultry Farm Community Enterprise.
We’re happy to see that the system is being fully tested before being deployed widely across the organization, and we look forward to hearing about the larger implementation and its impacts in the weeks to come.
