A Personal Message from Emily Tucker, TaroWorks CEO

After four years running TaroWorks (plus 9 years at its parent organization, Grameen Foundation), I am leaving to pursue a new opportunity.

I have loved every minute of my time with TaroWorks. From helping to sign our initial beta customers, to leading its spin-out from Grameen Foundation as a wholly owned subsidiary. And I’m proud that three short years after launching TaroWorks, close to 90 organizations have used our mobile solution to support over 200,000 micro-entrepreneurs, and improve the lives of more than 4.2 million poor beneficiaries.  Thank you to the TaroWorks team and to our amazing supporters for making this all possible. What a truly amazing ride it has been.

As TaroWorks has grown and expanded, and as I’ve built up a strong and high caliber team, I’ve gotten further and further away from my true passion: hands-on product management and development.  I’m returning to those roots, joining Facebook as a Product Manager on their Social Good team, helping to oversee their “safety check” feature (which lets users check in safe during natural disasters and terrorist events) and helping to build other features to support users during times of crisis and disaster.

It’s been a true honor to lead this incredible team and initiative, and I know I’m leaving TaroWorks in good hands. Kay Chau, who currently leads our Product & Customer Success teams, will be stepping in to serve as the interim CEO. Kay is a rock star and has worked closely with me over the past 8 years. I know she will do a fantastic job leading the team during this transition. We are launching a national search for my permanent replacement and expect to have that person on board by the end of the year.

I want to close by thanking TaroWorks’ customers. We built this application because we share your passion for reaching and serving underserved communities. Your commitment to improving the lives of the poor inspires us every day. Thank you for the work you do and for working with us to create a better world.

-Emily
